Dr. Keith Ablow: Gun Rights Are Linked With Autonomy, Self-Esteem

Dr. Keith Ablow, the founder of the leading life coaching and counseling system Pain-2-Power (www.pain-2-power.com) has a warning for those who seek to curtail the Second Amendment and limit gun rights:  The right to carry firearms is linked to human feelings of autonomy and is fundamental to the role of America as a defender of freedom at home and around the world.

Dr. Ablow was, for a decade, the Fox News Network on-air Contributor on all matters related to psychiatry and psychology.  He appeared over 1,000 times on programs hosted by Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Brian Kilmeade, Bill O’Reilly and many others.

“It is essential to the psyche of Americans, who rightfully prize their autonomy, that they feel capable of resisting attempts to subjugate them—whether through a home invasion or a government turned authoritarian—using firearms,” Dr. Ablow said.  “Disarming law-abiding Americans by further infringing on the Second Amendment is tantamount to weakening the spirit that fueled the Revolutionary War, to begin with, and which has been essential to defending freedom from despotism in World War I and World War II.”

Dr. Ablow believes that the Founding Fathers knew very well the importance of individual citizens having recourse against tyranny by virtue of a right to possess arms.  “The Founding Fathers of this country did not assume that the government in America would always respect liberty,” Ablow said.  “They knew that there needed to be checks and balances on the power of the federal government and that one such check was the certain knowledge amongst leaders that the citizenry was armed and would not tolerate wholesale measures to subjugate them.  We as a nation would dissolve the psychological foundation of gun ownership at our own peril.”

Dr. Ablow is a graduate of Brown University with highest honors, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a psychiatry residency at Tufts/New Engalnd Medical Center Hospitals.  He completed a graduate certificate program in pastoral counseling at Liberty University.

Dr. Ablow is the author of 16 books, including Living the Truth: Transform Your Life through the Power of Insight and Honesty, the New York Times bestseller The 7: Seven Wonders that Will Change Your Life, the New York Times bestseller Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson and the USA Today bestselling Frank Clevenger series of mysteries (Denial, Projection, Compulsion, Murder Suicide, Psychopath, and The Architect).  His books have been published around the world in six languages and have been selected as part of the Gryphon Editions Classics of Psychiatry collection.  In addition, Dr. Ablow has written hundreds of columns for USA Today, the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Boston Herald, the Baltimore Sun, Discover, Good Housekeeping, the Journal of the American Medical Association and Psychiatric Times.  His Washington Post columns were collected in the book To Wrestle with Demons, published by the American Psychiatric Press, a division of the American Psychiatric Association (which also published his book The Anatomy of a Psychiatric Illness).

Dr. Ablow is a sought-after speaker who has addressed national gatherings of the American Medical Association, Newscorp, Coldwell Banker, Susan Komen for the Cure and many other organizations.
